Camera Club Results -Angela

Every month at Camera Club we have a set subject and an open category. The set subject is designed to challenge us and get us to try out different ways of using our camera. September's set subject was Macro Photography, an independant judge attends our evening and scores our entries and gives us invaluable feedback designed to help us improve our skills.

The scoring is done as follows     Honours
                                                     Highly Commended
                                                     Merit
                                                     Entry Level

The judging is done on competition standards and is quite daunting when your image is up on the stand being scrutinised.

My entries for September were Macro Section- black & white image of a cobweb, taken very early in the morning with raindrops hanging off it creating 'Natures Necklace'     Gained Honours
Calendula Flower with baby snail gained Merit - Judges comment was that he felt that there should have been more focus on the snail and less on the flower.

Open entry was a Magnolia bloom that gained Merit.. When I presented the image on the mounting board the board was not big enough and it cut off some of the top of the flower and the petals on the side. This would have been an Honours image if I had presented it differently...lesson learnt

MERIT

This year I am enjoying camera club more than last year, I think I am more confident with my camera and also not feeling quite so intimidated with the judging. Joining Camera Club has been one of the best things I have done with regards to my photography, being with like minded people, seeing how other people capture images and learning by the judges and the mentors in the Club who are only too pleased to help. I thoroughly recommend joining a Camera Club if you are wanting to progress with your abilities and to challenge your creativity.
